Changes to SEND provision a step closer

The government has announced that its response to the SEN green paper consultation will be published early this year.

The response to the consultation on the green paper Support and Aspiration will outline more detail about:

  • the introduction of a single assessment process and Education and Health Care Plan (EHCP) to replace the statutory SEN assessment and statement
  • the introduction of personal budgets for parents of children who qualify for an EHCP
  • greater involvement in the assessment of children's needs for the voluntary and community sector.

It is also expected to shed light on two of the green paper's more controversial proposals: the commitment to introducing a new approach to SEND identification and the proposal to remove the bias towards inclusion.
