Early years training delivery 'must be improved'
The National Day Nurseries Association (NDNA) says the delivery of early years qualifications must be improved to ensure students are 'work ready' at the end of their training.
NDNA workforce development director Stella Ziolkowski said: 'Employers have told us that in many cases the quality of delivery of qualifications is a greater issue than the content of the qualifications and because of this, many people completing qualifications are simply not "work ready".'
The NDNA believes the problem should be addressed by introducing 'more robust requirements for trainers to be up-to-date with practice and initiatives'. Careers service providers should promote 'greater awareness of the level of professionalism and skill' needed to perform early years roles effectively, added Ziolkowski, and the length of training programmes should be tailored to suit individual students' needs.
