New post-16 maths qualification in development
The Advisory Committee for Maths Education (ACME) is developing a new maths qualification aimed at increasing uptake of the subject post-GCSE.
ACME says that the qualification will be designed for students who need to continue with maths but for whom an A-Level in the subject would be inappropriate. The proposal follows suggestions from both Michael Gove and ACME head Steve Sparks that young people should study maths up to the age of 18 in order to be competitive in the jobs market.
For more on the proposal, including information on a call for views to guide the development of the new qualification, visit the ACME website.
