Ofqual announces scrutiny of humanities GCSEs

Ofqual will look closely at planned revisions to English literature, history, RE and geography GCSEs to ensure they meet the expected standards.

The examinations watchdog says it will scrutinise planned changes to these GCSEs following media concerns that 'some qualifications may permit narrowing of the expected course of study'.

GCSE specifications are currently being revised in preparation for the following:

  • the introduction of assessment in spelling, punctuation and grammar in some subjects (due to take place in January 2013)
  • the switch to linear rather than modular assessment (summer 2013).

For more information on how changes to GCSE assessment will affect your school see the Ofqual website.
