Schools run up huge debts through mis-sold lease agreements

Schools are running into trouble through taking on lease agreements for equipment that result in significant costs.

Some schools have found that they owe hundreds of thousands on equipment, such as computers and photocopiers, leased from suppliers who overcharge them once they have entered into a contractual agreement. The DfE says the difficulties arise from 'a combination of very poor decision making from schools and opportunistic/predatory sales tactics from suppliers', and urges schools to read the small print before signing contracts.
