The school-led approach
- The independent approach to achieve the award.
- The award coordinator undertakes a self-evaluation and creates the school’s action plan against the award framework.
- A dedicated school-led coach is on hand to provide support and guidance when needed, via telephone and email.
- A verifier visits the school for a full day to assess evidence and determine if the school has met the criteria to achieve the award.
About the Effective School Governance Award (ESGA)
Delivered in partnership with EES for Schools
The Effective School Governance Award provides schools with a framework to develop and demonstrate the impact and effectiveness of their governing board.
The award framework for self-evaluation is based on nine elements that address the Ofsted criteria for Effectiveness of Leadership and Management. Through the process of action planning, collecting evidence and external verification, schools can validate the impact and effectiveness of their governing body in driving school improvement.
This inclusive award can be achieved by all types and sizes of schools, including those where the governing board is responsible for more than one school.
The ESGA is available only through the school-led approach. However, additional adviser days can be booked to support the award process if required.
