Schools have statutory responsibilities regarding provision of first aid materials and expertise, and the reporting and recording of injuries and accidents.

The employer has a responsibility to have a health and safety policy and arrangements to implement, monitor and review it.

Revised health and safety guidance for schools was published by the Department for Education in 2012, summarising how the existing health and safety law affects schools, local authorities, governing bodies, and staff – particularly in relation to school trips.
