Parents have a duty to ensure that children who are of compulsory school age receive full-time education in a school or are ‘educated otherwise’. The parent of a child who is on the school roll is therefore obliged to ensure the child attends school regularly.

The governing body must ensure a curricular record is kept for each registered pupil.

Parents should be notified of their child's exclusion by telephone followed by a letter with full details of the exclusion.
